If you just want to "revamp your camp" by lightening your load, improving your existing setup and speeding up your packing, pitching and packing up times, then absolutely not. There are loads of ideas for you to consider depending on your existing gear and the good old cost / benefit analysis.

If, however, you want to camp trailer free, this is perhaps the biggest sticking point for some people. We try to accommodate your existing gear where possible, but the likelihood of being able to use it will depend on the size of your vehicle, and the weight and pack dimensions of each item for transporting.

For example, we generally allow for an icebox of 55 litres or a compressor fridge of around 40 litres. If your fridge or icebox is larger than that and you have a vehicle with a boot size at the lower end of what we recommend, then it is not likely to be compatible.

Likewise for your tent and shelter. We allow around 35 kilograms or 77 lbs in total.

Even if you have an existing vehicle, it may not be suitable. And, if you plan to upgrade it, until such time as you do (which we cover in the program) you may need to either limit what you take, or hire or borrow a suitable one in the interim.

That said, when you compare the cost, you are still likely to be ahead if you replace your gear, compared to the alternative of investing in a larger vehicle or trailer, and somewhere to store it, or choosing alternative forms of holidays.

Yes absolutely! This is the place to be if you want to camp comfortably and safely - trailer free, and you are on a tight budget. We focus on keeping costs down and getting the most out of your gear. That said, we recommend you don't skimp on what you sleep in and what you sleep on (ie your tent and basically avoid cheap airbeds and thin sleeping mats). Good quality gear can last you for years and save you in the long run.
